A message from Nina

Let’s Enable supports adults and young people with disabilities from Birmingham to enjoy the mental health benefits of companionship with horses and become more active by participating in horse care. Activities include grooming with adapted brushes, mucking out, making up feeds or leading the horses.
We offer an:

  • ‘At the stables service’ for 1:1 or small group sessions (maximum 5) – based at Summerfield Stables, (B28 0DA) - the stables have a fully accessible changing place with ceiling track hoists for personal care.

  • ‘Outreach service’ where we take the horses to different venues who support the disabled eg special schools, colleges, day centres.

Special needs school groups (whatever the disability), day centres for adults with learning difficulties, individuals self-referring (or their families) and referrals from health care professionals are all welcome.

Let’s Enable can also offer a personal training service alongside the horse care sessions – sessions will be tailored to each service user’s requirements and needs. This will help service users to be as active as their abilities and conditions allow and improve their health outcomes.

What are the benefits?

We have seen so many benefits of these sessions. Some examples are:

  • Being part of a community and making friends

  • Increased communication whether this is verbal or non-verbal

  • Improved mental well being

  • Improved physical skills both fine and gross motor skills which the service users can use in their everyday lives

Welcome to Let's Enable

From January 2025 I am starting a masters in Speech and Language Therapy. I am passionate about helping young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities to be able to communicate. It is a 2 year full time course, which means unfortunately I cannot run Let’s Enable alongside it.  It has been a really difficult decision, but I am hoping I can come back and see you all and work with you again.

I would like to say a big thank you to all of you for your support over the last two years.  We have loved meeting so many wonderful service users and their families/carers and seeing the joy the ponies bring. We have seen so many amazing interactions and have loved every minute.

Big thank you to the amazing ponies @Summerfield Stables, my wonderful staff, volunteers and the fantastic Let's Enable directors who have helped behind the scenes. Let's Enable would not have been possible without them!
