Come and be part of our community!

Let’s Enable supports adults and young people with disabilities from Birmingham to enjoy the mental health benefits of companionship with horses and become more active by participating in horse care. Activities include grooming with adapted brushes, mucking out, making up feeds or leading the horses.
We offer an:

  • ‘At the stables service’ for 1:1 or small group sessions (maximum 5) – based at Summerfield Stables, (B28 0DA) - the stables have a fully accessible changing place with ceiling track hoists for personal care.

  • ‘Outreach service’ where we take the horses to different venues who support the disabled eg special schools, colleges, day centres.

Special needs school groups (whatever the disability), day centres for adults with learning difficulties, individuals self-referring (or their families) and referrals from health care professionals are all welcome.

Let’s Enable can also offer a personal training service alongside the horse care sessions – sessions will be tailored to each service user’s requirements and needs. This will help service users to be as active as their abilities and conditions allow and improve their health outcomes.

What are the benefits?

We have seen so many benefits of these sessions. Some examples are:

  • Being part of a community and making friends

  • Increased communication whether this is verbal or non-verbal

  • Improved mental well being

  • Improved physical skills both fine and gross motor skills which the service users can use in their everyday lives
